I am an American living overseas in Indonesia with my Indonesian wife. I am currently going through the process of submitting documents to the NVC, but I have a question:

I have read online that, on Part 6, I should list my income as $0, because my employment will not continue after I move back. Should I list my employer and profession, or leave the entire section empty? Should I explain in a letter? (and if so, does anyone have an example of said letter)

Thanks in advance!

I have one other question about the form, with regard to household size.

I (sponsor, US citizen), my son (us citizen) and my wife (applicant, Indonesian) hope to come to the USA and live with my mother. My mother is the joint sponsor. She currently has one other dependent living there, my brother.

From my understanding, my mother's I-864 should list a household size of 3 (her, my brother, my wife (applicant)), and my I-864 should show a household size of 3 (me, my wife (applicant), and my son). However, I'm not entirely sure if that's correct. My son is not claimed as a dependent for tax reasons (income too low to file), so do I put him on this form? As for my mother, does she need to include me or my son, as it is her income we're using for the affidavit?

Thanks again!

My husband (usc) lives with me in Sweden so this is what we had to do: file taxes with form 1040 and 2555-EZ. That amount became $0 and we stated his Swedish profession. We had to include copies of those forms, write a letter that there are no W2's due to the foreign earned income and we had to ask the irs to send us tax transcripts when they had filed his taxes. We also filled out the form 8965 so my husband won't be penalized for not having health coverage in the US. We printed out all the forms and sent them by mail but I think you can do this online too. This might not be exactly how you need to do it so double check everything. If you didn't earn enough money according to the irs level (don't remember the amount so you need to google) you do not need to file taxes but you have to write a letter explaining why you didn't file your taxes :)

Thank you for your response. My income was too low to file, and i have already included a letter and evidence in my packet.

However, I'm still unsure if I claim my son as a dependent (as I didn't file taxes). I think that I should, but often the answer seems to be counterintuitive.

With regards to the I-864, it seems clear that I should put $0 for total income (as my employment will not continue), but I'm not sure whether or not to list my current job. Again, I think that I should, but I'm not sure.

Thanks again for your response

As for your household question: I know that your mother should only count your wife into her household.

I'm not sure if you need to put your son in your application since he is a usc so wait and see if someone else answers. If not, put him on there. In my interview letter we were told exactly what needed to be corrected on the I-864.
