Good day!

I am a Filipina and currently working in Chiangmai,Thailand as a teacher. I wish to apply for a visitors visa this May for I plan to visit America on October (During our semestral break) with my American boyfriend.

My concerns are:

1.Can I apply here in Chiangmai, since they have the consulate here?

2. What's the name of the form that I should fill up?

3. What documents would I be needing to compile?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can apply there. Go to the US embassy website to learn the steps.

Do you own property in Thailand? Have a substantial amount of money in the bank?

You need to show strong ties to Thailand (where you are currently living) or home (if you are not planning to return to Thailand). Either way it will likely be a difficult visa to obtain.

Hey, Ahn Map, thank you! I appreciate your response.

I do have money in my bank but pretty much won't be substantial if I'll support myself for the whole trip, but my boyfriend is willing to support me on our expenses of going there.

I got no properties here in Thailand, because we're not allowed to by such in here. If appliances would be considered as a property I have a couple of them. As of now I am on a contract renting an apartment as well as in the school where I'm working. I have my work permit & work visa which ties me here so need to be back here after semestral break, if given a chance to travel in America.

Do you have any family in the US?

The work contract and visa aren't strong ties.

Have you done much traveling in the past? A history of visiting other countries (and returning home) in the past may be a plus.

All you can do is make the appointment and go to the visa interview.

No family in the US is a plus for a Filipino. Traveling with a US boyfriend is a minus.

The US assumes that everyone applying for a visa has immigrant intent. It's up to you to make the interviewing officer believe that you will leave the US at the end of your visit. Tell your story, show your contract and Thai residency.

Best of luck.
