Hello Everyone. My fiancé's interview is April 25th. As every Petitioner on here knows taxes are due April 15th, but I am a business owner and I usually file an extension for my taxes, which are really due March 15th. Does anyone know if the Consulate will ask me for 2015 taxes so close to tax filing time? Thank you

I'm assuming you're self-employed with S-Corp, C-Corp businesses since you mentioned the March 15th deadline. So you don't have W-2 earnings from a regular job as well?

Given that info, and if you are the sole sponsor for your fiancé, for self-employed they do ask for the most recent tax return. I don't know if they would accept proof of filing an extension... but in my opinion I wouldn't risk it.

Yes a C-Corp, and I also have W-2's from a regular job for 2015 and of course my tax transcripts for 2012, 2013, and 2014. So do you think they will still ask for 2015 tax return? Thanks

Although I am not an expert by any means but I believe that I have read on here that you can show the extension and will be okay. The other thing I might suggest is e-mailing the Kingston Embassy and posing the question and/or contact NVC.

I think the suggestion to ask the embassy directly sounds much better because each embassy in the respective country has different requirements.

I would think if your W-2 income is sufficient, and you have all related earnings documents such as employer verification letter, paystubs and W-2, the filing of the extension might be sufficient.

MariaR323 I'm going to call them tomorrow and I just emailed them. I hope it is sufficient because I cannot deal with both the stress of doing my taxes and this interview process! Thank you so much for your help.

Although my visa type is different, on the P4 letter received from NVC for our scheduled appointment, it states the following:

Bring updated Federal income tax information to the interview. If a sponsor filed an I-864 (Affidavit of

Support) and provided the NVC with proof of an IRS Federal income tax extension in lieu of a Federal

income tax return, bring the sponsor's most recent Federal income tax return to the visa interview.

So with this information, I would say that if you have filed for an extension, you should be able to bring that letter along with last years' transcripts and be fine.
