Hey All - I am about to turn in my K-1 Visa petition at the end of this week (hopefully)! Mty fiance is from South Africa. We have been together for almost 5 years where the last 3 years I lived with him in South Africa / Mozambique. Due to me being abroad, I have a few questions.

1. Since I am JUST entering into the USA (January 2016) I am unemployed, looking for work and living at home with my parents. Jarrod, the fiance, has been offered a job in Atlanta (3 hours from my parent's) upon the issue of his visa / work application. When the 1-129f asks "intended location," I only have my father's address. So should I add a note with his letter of intent of employment saying we will be relocating when he is approved and I will therefor update my address at that time? How should I handle this?

2. Because I am looking for work, the G325A asks for employment info. By saying I am unemployed, will I be jeopardizing our application? I am in grad school (correspondence) as well.

3. Anyone have experience with the South African K-1 visa process recently?

Thank you for any and all information!

Follow the instructions literally, do not try to read too much into it.

2. Because I am looking for work, the G325A asks for employment info. By saying I am unemployed, will I be jeopardizing our application? I am in grad school (correspondence) as well. You will likely need a co-sponsor, read the Form I-129F instructions.

3. Anyone have experience with the South African K-1 visa process recently? Check out the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Forum: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/89-africa-sub-saharan/

Thank you for any and all information!

Welcome to the forum.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Concerning your first question, I agree with Pitaya. Don't think too much into it. Think on what is your situation going to be when he arrives in the US. Promises of jobs (even though you know they are real) don't mean much for the K1, specially because we need employment authorization (work permit) for it, and it takes a few months for it to get to the fiancee/spouse.

You need to focus on your parents filling out an affidavit of support and having enough money to provide for all 4 of you :) And where is that gonna allow you to live, which is your parents house. If you move before he gets the visa, you just need to let the embassy know (I did it during my interview). And if it happens after he gets here, there are also ways to let the immigration know.

Good luck on your process :)

Thank you for your help!

On my instructions, I do not see anything about co-sponsor. I have read a forum saying that it is no longer an option? Any idea on this?

Thanks,

I have lots of savings as does he, can I submit bank statments or the sort to show I am financially secure?

I think (and I am not sure) that his savings count for something. I didn't use it, but this is what I found online:

"A: Assets may supplement income if the immigration officer is convinced that the monetary value of the asset could reasonably be made available to support the sponsored immigrant and converted to cash within one year without undue harm to the sponsor or his or her family members. You may not include an automobile unless you show that you own at least one working automobile that you have not included."

Also read this one: https://www.usavisanow.com/k-1-fiance-visa/k-1-visa-affidavit-of-support/joint-sponsors/

And I haven't read anywhere that you cannot use a joint sponsor. My interview was in October. And I filled my AOS with the joint sponsor also. Dont believe everything you read and try to find information on official websites :) Although visa journey does help a lot.
