Hi,

I currently have 10 yr approved residency and I am in the process of applying for citizenship together with my 13 yr old son out of wedlock(biological father is undeclared in the birth certificate and we don't know his whereabouts). My US citizen husband would like to have my son's last name (he's using my Filipino maiden name) changed to his last name (my married last name). Would I be able to do this during the application for US Citizenship?

Any suggestions on how we should tackle this?

Looking forward for your response.

Maraming Salamat.

Mabuhay!

hi

your son cannot apply for citizenship with you, you apply alone

the N400 exam is only for adults 18 and above. Now if you're son is also a green card holder, once you become a USC, he will derive your citizenship

you can apply for his US passport

an adoption has nothing to do with citizenship

for your son to have your husband's last name, your husband will have to legally adopt him

these are 2 separate issues
