Hi All,I am 37 years old and am likely to be soon receiving an appointment letter from the NVC for my Immigrant Visa Interview a the US Embassy in London. I was looking at the vaccination requirements necessary for the Medical Examination and due to my age it seems that out of the 12 or so requirements only the 2 below would apply to me:

Td=adult formulation tetanus and diphtheria toxoids;

MMR=combined measles, mumps, rubella vaccine;

Seems that i do not even have to receive an Influenza jab as this seems to be an annualized requirement if only over 50 years of age. Just wanted to know if there is anyone around my age who can confirm if this is right? Also for the vaccinations required, do you simply contact your local GP and ask for them to administer them?thanks

p.s Was trying to place this just in the UK specific portal but unfortunately was unable to start a thread for some reason.

I just went to my GP and had any that I had missed, I did get a flu jab from a local pharmacy just so that it was on my record (just in case) it only cost me £6. They forwarded the record on to the GP so its now on my vaccination record.

Good Luck!

Hi thanks for getting back.

Did you provide your GP a list of the required vaccinations from the list provided as some of these are irrelevant dependant on your age? Good idea about getting the flu jab just in case.

  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Influenza
  • Influenza type b (Hib)
  • Measles
  • Meningococcal
  • Mumps
  • Pneumococcal
  • Pertussis
  • Polio
  • Rotavirus
  • Rubella
  • Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
  • Varicella

This is the greatest lesson a child can learn. It is the greatest lesson anyone can learn. It has been the greatest lesson I have learned: if you persevere, stick w/it, work @ it, you have a real opportunity to achieve something. Sure, there will be storms along the way. And you might not reach your goal right away. But if you do your best and keep a true compass, you'll get there. Edward M. Kennedy,

Go to your NHS doctor and get the immunizations or proof you have already had them. Many NHS doctors will do them for free, but they are not obligated to do so for immigration purposes. Get the shots documented by your doctor to take to your visa medical exam. If your doctor should say you dont need something on this list, remember you have to go by US rules and that differs from UK standards. Here are the shots needed for 19 through 59 years of age:

  • Td or Tdap - Tetanus/diptheria/pertussis or get DT, DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted for AOS also. The latest shot must be no longer than 10 years ago or you need a booster. If you have a record of receiving pertussis, then the Td is okay for the booster.
  • MMR - (if born in 1957 or later)-Mumps/measles/rubella. It's two doses in your life, but if you get the first dose, and 4 weeks haven't passed by your medical, they will waive the second dose for "insufficient time interval". If you only had one dose as a child, get a second one before the medical.
  • Varicella - Not routinely given in the UK . A history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They take your word for it at the visa medical exam.
  • Influenza Required during flu season only, October 1 through March 31. This was a new recommendation dated November 2010 for all ages over 6 months. Older lists will say flu shots for over age 50. It changed. The list on the London embassy website was way out of date since 2009. Not sure if that is posted there anymore.

Positive this is correct information.
