Hello all,

I wonder if you could help me by answering some of my questions related to filling out the N-400 on the computer. What was your experience, how did you submit it and what was the outcome? (thank you in advance).:

1) - Form expires 09//30/2015 (just downloaded it from the uscis website). Is this a problem?

2) - Part 2. Is it ok to put Middle Name as N/A if I don't have one? N/A also for other names?

3) - Part 2.4. By marking NO in the checkbox I am unable to type N/A in the blank fields below it (they get disabled). Ok leaving them blank? Same will happen in other sections throughout the form.

4) - Part 4.1. Same situation as question 3 but related to foreign addresses if I have a US address. Should I leave Apt. Ste. Flr. Number in blank too? Street Number was already entered in the Street Name field.

5) - Part 4.A Mailing address same as address above. Should I just leave it in blank? Fields don't accept N/A (only alpha characters only) when filling out in the computer. Previous addresses below will accept N/A but only on Street number and name, city, county, fields. Others, same problem with the "alpha characters only".

6) - Part 5. Same as Part 2.4. Checking on the check boxes will disable fields from being filled out. Leave them in blank?

7) - Part 8. In one trip I visited 4 countries in Europe. I can't write all them down in one single line in the "countries to which I traveled" field. What should I do?

8) - Part 8. I will need an extra sheet of paper to disclose all my trips. Is it just a piece of paper filled out in Microsoft word with my Alien number, signature and pertaining trip information?

Just to summarize the problem I am struggling with is the blank fields. In some fields I can type n/a, others I can't because of the alpha numeric thing, others are just disabled when checking a checkbox.

Is the barcode a safeguard for typed information in the fields?

thank you again for the help

Hi! I left a lot of parts of the form blank - those that were not applicable or where I would otherwise put none. I was approved! :)

Hello all,

I wonder if you could help me by answering some of my questions related to filling out the N-400 on the computer. What was your experience, how did you submit it and what was the outcome? (thank you in advance).:

1) - Form expires 09//30/2015 (just downloaded it from the uscis website). Is this a problem?

Edition Date: 09/13/13. A new edition of this form is coming soon. In the meantime, customers may file using the 09/13/13 edition. No previous editions accepted.

2) - Part 2. Is it ok to put Middle Name as N/A if I don't have one? N/A also for other names?

If I remember correctly, I couldn't put N/A on the form because some fields (except for dates) don't accept special characters - or at least not the slash specifically. I would personally leave it blank just to be safe - so it doesn't end up being part of your name somehow. No matter what you do, don't put "NONE" - I think I remember reading somewhere that someone had that happen - USCIS thought None was their middle name.

3) - Part 2.4. By marking NO in the checkbox I am unable to type N/A in the blank fields below it (they get disabled). Ok leaving them blank? Same will happen in other sections throughout the form.

I would leave it blank.

4) - Part 4.1. Same situation as question 3 but related to foreign addresses if I have a US address. Should I leave Apt. Ste. Flr. Number in blank too? Street Number was already entered in the Street Name field.

I left it blank.

I believe I wrote "SAME AS ABOVE" but you can choose to leave it blank as well.

6) - Part 5. Same as Part 2.4. Checking on the check boxes will disable fields from being filled out. Leave them in blank?

Blank.

7) - Part 8. In one trip I visited 4 countries in Europe. I can't write all them down in one single line in the "countries to which I traveled" field. What should I do?

I would carry over the other countries that can't fit in the first line to the next line. Then skip that line for the next trip.

8) - Part 8. I will need an extra sheet of paper to disclose all my trips. Is it just a piece of paper filled out in Microsoft word with my Alien number, signature and pertaining trip information?

Yes, make sure it has your full name and A#.

Just to summarize the problem I am struggling with is the blank fields. In some fields I can type n/a, others I can't because of the alpha numeric thing, others are just disabled when checking a checkbox.

In general, I chose to leave those fields blank instead of typing N/A or None.

Is the barcode a safeguard for typed information in the fields?

2D Barcode Technology. If you are completing this form on a computer, the data you enter will be captured using 2D barcode technology. This capture will ensure that the data you provide is accurately entered into USCIS systems. As you complete each data field, the 2D barcode line at the bottom of each page will shift as data is captured. Upon receipt of your form, USCIS will use decoding equipment to extract the data from the form. Please do not damage the 2D barcode (e.g., puncture, staple, write on,) as this could affect the ability of USCIS to timely process your form.

I hope that helps!
