Hello all,

My fiancée and I are in need of desperate help! We're very confused and scared that something has happened to our case! Please help!

We received approval of our case last month (Dec 30th). We called the National Visa Center a week later and they said they'd send our case to the embassy (Bogota) in a few days. The agent I spoke to was pleasant and provided us with our new case number and invoice number. She couldn't give me anymore info, just told me to wait and then contact the embassy in Bogota. We then waited several days and emailed the embassy to ask us for our next steps. They emailed back saying they hadn't received our case yet! However, when we went to the Colombian website where you set up your date for an interview, we registered and it brought us to a page where we had to pay the visa fee but also, gave us a date in less than two weeks(!) for an interview! To be fair, we didn't know if this date meant that it was our scheduled date or not, because it just said "earliest available interview date" or something like that. We decided not to pay just yet because we didn't know if paying meant that we would lock in that date for the interview, which was simply too early for us to attend. I tried calling the National Visa Center again, just to ask them if they had mailed our case to the embassy yet, but nobody picked up. I tried calling several times for a few hours one day.

Can anybody else here tell me if you've encountered a problem like this before? Can anybody tell me what they think is going on? We really don't understand. We just want to choose an interview date so she can prepare all of her documents and things, travel to the embassy in Bogota, and get her visa. These mixed messages that we're receiving are tough to decipher what to do now.

Hi and thanks for your message.

The CEAC site says that on January 20th, our case was updated and gave me the following message:

"Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment. Additional information about how Immigrant Visa interview appointments are scheduled can be found at: http://nvc.state.gov/interview"

We had tried to schedule the interview only a day or two before that and the first interview date that was given to us was Jan 25 (waaay too early). We emailed and received the "we haven't received your case yet" response probably on the 21st. I had called the NVC probably less than two weeks before that and was told that they'd send our case to the embassy and to give them 3-5 days. These dates just aren't adding up!

If the CEAC says that and you can book a interview, it seems like the case are at the embassy.

They need some days to mail the packet to the embassy.

So try again or email/call embassy Monday and ask them.

Okay, I'll try again today. Thanks.

Can anybody tell me if they received a similar experience in regards to the "earliest available interview date" message when you try to pay your fee? Is that simply a suggested interview date and we can choose another, later date? That was a very confusing message.
