Dumb Question

Hi Everyone,

When you send your 129F to the Service Centers and it gets to NVC. Just what do they do with it? It takes an average of 90 days from NOA1 to NOA2. So what happens in that 90 days? I understand the backlog of petitions, but really??? What really happens with it? Do they do any checks on the petioner? I mean if they do, it only takes a button or two to be pressed on a keyboard. I am pretty sure no checks are done on the Fiancee until later, right? So I guess most 90% of the time, it probably just sets on someone's desk or filebox someplace until it gets looked at. Another question also. Why doesn't TSC and NSC send petitions to the CSC? So, what does the TSC and the NSC really do?? Just curious.

The backlog is just that long. It only takes about 6 to 15 minutes to process any given I-129F at a service center - according to data I recently read in the document that was issued as the request for public comment for the proposed fee increase.

It just takes that long because there are THAT MANY applicants. So yours goes at the back of the line when it gets there and the employees are just slogging through the stack.

Sucks, but that's how it is.

VJ members are a small percentage of petitioners. So just imagine how many there really are.

OK. When I actually go back to the U.S. I will visit CSC in Laguna Niguel.

I actually worked in that building and have done a "walk-in" several times to USCIS - no appointment.

The building is one million square feet and I believe that the USCIS only occupies one floor.

Perhaps I will apply for a job since it appears that they will be hiring if the fees increase.

We used to call it the ziggurat but it's real name is Chet Holifield Building.

TimsDaisy...might I first point out you two are such a cute couple...good luck with your journey. Im interested in a thread or site that talks about the fee increase. I heard it was something wayyyyy more than what it is now. I'll bet the wait time decreases significantly (like CSC will become the new VSC and VSC will become a drive-thru ) Thanks in advance.

Check the USCIS website - their newsroom and other areas - for information. Also - I think the general news category or whatever here on VJ had some discussion about it. You should also read through the request for public comment document (The link that I had added above - though it's in a bad layout there, there's a pdf version out there somewhere). If you do some google searching - there's plenty of websites out there that address the matter.

I doubt it will really speed things up. They are already running behind schedule because they are short staffed because they don't have enough money (They have a federal mandate to be entirely self-funded, that means they have to make everything they spend: your fee money supports the whole system). It's more likely they'll just run fewer deficits.

The document I linked to has a lot of good information, not just about the proposal, but about the whole branch.
