I agree with Rebeccajo, straightforward has bullsh** to do with a fast approval. Our case had all of it's i's dotted and t's crossed, but we are still waiting for our approval 200+ days after filing because of namecheck. How clear your case is won't stop you from getting stuck in a namecheck, won't make an office not be backlogged, and won't speed up the system. If you want to work then apply for the EAD, if you want to travel then apply for the AP. If you get approved fast, then great, but if you don't then at least you are able to work and do something to occupy your time and the cost of applying for them (which is piddly compared to what it might be, and really isn't THAT much anyways) will just be absorbed by the fact that you're working now. If you don't need to work then just wait, but telling people not to apply because they will get a fast approval is bad advice. People should decide for themselves how important working is travelling then and decide for themselves if it's worth risking the wait or applying now; thinking you know when AOS will be approved is silly.

We filed for AOS, EAD and AP at the same time. Foolishly. Shouldn't have bothered with EAD and AP as it seems AOS approval is imminent....

Interestingly, though.... there have been several touches to the AOS, and NONE to the EAD and AP.... wondering if the adjudicators for the EAD and AP see the progress on the AOS and are ignoring those applications....

Anyone else have the same thing happen?

We have experienced the same thing. Our AP has practically not been touched since they received it and EAD has not been touched since after the biometrics. AOS has been touched quite a bit, but nothing since last month.

My case went extremely well and quick, for which I am eternally grateful, but my EAD still arrived a full 2 months before my Green Card did, and without the EAD I would have lost my job and would probably now be homeless and whoring myself out for crack while my wife files divorce papers and moves in with her new lesbian lover after I turned her off men for life due to being such a failure.

The moral of the story: apply for an EAD!

Once again, crappy advice. There are several members on this board who have been waiting for years - maybe if your case is cut and dry and you don't need to work, it'll work out for you. I wouldn't chance it, though.

The only thing crappy going on here is your attitude. The advice is clear as presented both by myself and raymaga in that; for those who neither have need to travel nor quickly work, then filing for EAD and AP is a moot point. If on the other hand you suspect that your AOS is not a cut and dry issue as many marriage based ones are, then, pay the extra dollars and go that route.

Again, your calling crappy advice carries little weight as you've failed to look at the evidence and statistics of this board. Many indeed are receiving their EAD and AP approvals within a few weeks of AOS approval.

Well...here's our situation. Our case is straightforward...enough to be transferred to California. YET...we are in namecheck hell. Being in namecheck has nothing at all to do with whether or not your case is cut and dried. Although we despise being in this position, there it is, this is where we are. For eight months as it happens. In my opinion (and that's all this is, my opinion) it IS crappy advice to tell everyone NOT to apply for EAD or AP. I see others whose AOS is cut and dried yet are in namecheck and have been for almost two years.

For those that receive their GC in just a few weeks...hooray. Evidence and statistics on here don't count for much it seems as approvals are all over the place right now. Blast me if you want, I personally don't care. You're not in our shoes nor those of others on here who are in limbo because of namechecks.

In regards to the original comment about 'adjudicators' of the EAD and AP.

EAD and AP aren't 'adjudicated'. They are checked to make sure the forms are correct and they are produced.

They are also produced in Missouri and the AOS file is 'adjudicated' at your district office.

The only link between the two processes are RFE's for the AOS can halt production of the EAD or AP.

I will add this as well (LOL I can't shut up about this).....

I've talked her before about how hard it is to get a mortgage without a greencard. And I reported recently how I had researched FNMA and found there are no provisions in their guidelines against loans to individuals without greencards. In fact, I found they have a designation for such people - 'non permanent' legal resident.

Just last week, Wes and I went to see our banker. She had researched my findings and asked her underwriter to do the same.

We were prequalified for a mortgage loan and can get the same rate and terms as any 'normal' American couple. The only proof Wes needs of his status is his EAD.

oooh oooh oooh how about this one Becca - due to unforseen circumstances I had to scale back my working hours a lot, thus lowering my income and wound up HAVING to use my immigrant hubby's income on the I864 (completed to bring to the interview).

bottom line is, people need to make informed decisions, and when many just pop off *don't do it!, etc etc.* it can be misleading. so in those threads where those of us advocating the EAD see those comments, caution is provided by again, us who benefitted greatly by applying for the EAD.

its like a balance! i like how that works!

Oo that is awesome news! It definitely gives me some hope; we are going to go start talking to mortgage brokers soon.
