Hi everyone,

I recently submitted my K1 application in for my Fiance that lives in Cuba. I sent it in Monday, November 23rd. I have not heard anything as of yet, probably because of the holiday weekend. But I wanted to see if anyone has done the process recently with a Cuban fiance specifically, I want to get a better idea of what to expect. I'm pretty confident that we should get the application accepted, we met here in the US, he was admitted with a Parole under the wet/foot dry foot law and had to go back to Cuba because his mother got sick. He is was here for about 3 months before he left, we got engaged right before he left, it has been almost 4 months since he has been gone. We met through our families, his uncle lives here in the states.

We talk every day, so I submitted about 6-9 photos of us here in the US (his birthday, my birthday, two other family gatherings). I submitted some of my social media post from when he first got here, of us together, reciepts of the hotels I paid for our birthdays, my recent trip to Cuba (including my visa and ticket copies), call logs for his US phone# between us 2 and about 2 months worth of calls since he left, I also submitted reciepts of payments I have made to recharge his phone so that we can talk and about 3 or 4 emails between us.

So, I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is enough information to establish our relationship - you really do not think to keep a papertrail when you're in a relationship - other than photos. Any information will help - I'd love to hear someone's recent experience.

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. To clarify, are you talking about the I-129F petition that you submitted to USCIS, or the K-1 visa application (after petition approval) that you submitted to the Havana embassy? Precise terminology is important. :) You might also create your timeline.

Your thread is moved from the K-1 Process forum to the K-1 Case Progress subforum, where it fits a little better.

Be sure to look at the Caribbean regional forum for other posts about Cuba.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

what is the I1298? You mean Fiance Visa? I-129F?

I would suggest waiting you will get the notification in 1 to 2 weeks they received it. Then depending on what location processes it - it could take a few months to well over 6 months for USCIS to send you your first NOA1 from there it goes pretty quickly.

I would keep documents through the process as you will need to submit a plethora of evidence and I highly suggest being present at the interview.

@pepper44, hi. Yes i submitted the fiance visa, sorry i wrote it wrong :-) wow i hope it doesnt take that long to get a NOA1. He had a friend that recently did it and finished everything in 3 months. I know every case is different and should plan for long term in case. Im hoping his case is a little different because he was already here in the states but he went back because his mom got i'll. We got engaged before he left, we have his moms medical info proving she was sick and he is already in the system here. I have visted cuba already to see him and plan on going again in jan.

@pepper44 we have spoke every day since he has been gone. I submitted phone records, pictures, tickets and all of his paperwork from when he was here in the US. I will definitely keep everything up until the interview. Did you front load your petition? He's been gone for 3 months only, there is only so much to submit.

I front loaded the hell out of my petition and loaded it for the interview as well. Cuba is still considered a high fraud country due to the circumstances they are prisoners on the island so I made sure to load it.

I think I gave a good amount, I gave: His birth certificate, his certificate of being single, 6-9 photos of us together here in the states (including his birthday, my birthday and a couple of family gatherings), reciepts for 3 hotels I paid for for the events listed above, phone bills of call between us when he was here, call log of calls since he has been gone with his cuba #, reciepts of the recharges to his phone, social media photos that friends have liked, plane ticket and visa for the trip to Cuba earlier in Nov. (pictures include with him and his family) and of course everything else that the application called for. Hopefully this is enough, I learned about other things like afidavidts of friends etc, after I submitted the application. So if they do ask for additional information I have text message records (came after I submitted app), additional photos, emails and more reciepts for the recharge of his phone. I plan on going again in January and hopefully every month up until the interview (which i will be at). Fingers crossed!!
