Marriage Certificate needed for I-485

I was just wondering if anyone could confirm that the Marriage certificate is indeed required to file for AOS?

Elsewhere on this site, under AOS requirements it says the certificate is needed "if filing for your spouse"... This was a bit confusing to me - I, as the immigrant will be filing that form myself - does that mean a certified copy is not needed?

If a certificate is needed - I assume the 'mini certificate the judge signed for us at the time of the wedding is no good? Waiting 3 weeks to file for AOS sucks...

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

The USC doesn't file the AOS....why would they need to adjust status. The immigrant files it!

02/09/2005-------Sent in request to Congressional office for assistance with expediting EAD.

02/13/2007 -------- EAD Approved!

02/26/2007 - ------EAD received

Removal of Conditions:

05/12/2009 -- Overnighted application by USPS express mail (VSC).

05/14/2009 -- Green Card expired.

05/23/2009 --- Check cleared bank.

05/26/2009 -- Received NOA (NOA date May 15, 2009, guess they aren't deporting me).

05/29/2009- Biometrics Notice date

06/01/2009- Received Biometrics Letter

06/18/2009 - Biometrics

09/23/2009 - date of decision to approve (letter received), just waiting for card. No online updates whatsoever.

I don't know if the mini certificate works or not, but the VJ guide is outdated, you just need to send in a copy of your marriage certificate. I believe that they mean you need to include the marriage certificate if AOS is based on a marriage and not "if you are filing for your spouse". Hopefully someone who has experience with a judge issued certicate can come along and answer the q.

you need the certified copy from the courthouse to send with your AOS. The copy that you received on the day is just your souvenier copy and wont be accepted. They need to see that the marriage is registered in the county/state that it took place. It can take a day to several weeks to come and when you order them, usually around $5-10 per copy, make sure you get an extra copy or two cause these things have a habit of disappearing when you need them.

photocopy your certified certificate and send that in. take the certified copy with you to interview.
