Americans required to get Real ID card!

The Bush Administration and the Department of Homeland Security has issued a deadline to states (the year 2013) in which they must comply with the federal Real ID program. This would create a national database on 240 million drivers within the United States. I believe this new card would be used for everyone within the U.S., citizens and permanent residents alike.

Personally, I'm not thrilled about this. I think the current driver's license is just fine. We don't need more added layers of so-called "security." It's just more bureaucratic nonsense.

What really gets me pissed off is this item right here: "States must submit a plan of how they'll comply with the Real ID Act by October 7, 2007. If they don't, their residents will not be able to use IDs to board planes or enter federal buildings starting on May 11, 2008."

So basically, if your state doesn't do that, you could get screwed over. Real nice of your federal and state governments, huh?

Not to mention the fact that these new Real ID cards use RFID chips. These are the insecure chips that are supposedly supposed to be in all of the new passports. You know, the ones that can be "read" from a distance?

I have to say, the United States is looking less like the country I've known my whole life with each passing year. It's becoming what it spent decades fighting and that's just really sad.

If people are going to get all hysterical and demand 'action' without putting much thought into what action to take to actually get the results that they are looking for, then you'll keep getting this kind of 'initiative' from the powers that be. Something that looks like it's going to do something helpful but in reality is just a huge p.i.t.a for all the decent folks out there.

Also, how simple it is to defeat this system is illustrated amply here (DC-Balto area) where substantial numbers of drivers don't bother updating licence till it expires (including myself: I got away with using a MD licence in VA, then in Memphis, then "back" to Balto).

Real ID isn't as bad as some think it is. It just puts minimum standards that states are required to meet in order to have their licenses recognized by the Federal government for Federal purposes. The states don't have to comply...but the Fed doesn't have to recognize their driver's licenses or state IDs either. If your state won't comply...then go get a US passport and use it for Federal purposes.

The bottom line is that in many cases it is very desirable to know that somebody is who they say they are or if they are legal residents, etc. Everybody b!tches when some cheat draws 20 welfare checks or illegal aliens run rampant all over the USA, but they don't want to make any kind of accomodations to prevent it.

The fact is that America in 2007 will never be the America of 1907, 1807, etc. And the government already knows who you are anyway. Just try not paying your taxes on above ground income. Or go cash a check at the local Piggley Wiggley store without valid ID.

If the government is going to issue documents that are widely used for the purposes of identification...it seems rather obvious that they require proof that you are who you say you are and the documents you present are legitimate.

Without it, you won't drive a car, board a plane, train or bus, enter and Federal building, open a bank account, or hold a job. If you can't hold a job, or have a bank account, how much buying and selling will you be able to do?

As for Bible prophecy, it is foretold of a time comming when every person will be required to have a ' mark or a number ', and without it no one will be able to participate in the economy.

I have heard the Feds are giving states more time and now it won't take effect until 2009 .

It is already in the works. They want to implant chips with into people containing their medical information, implant chips into kids who's parents are worried about their child should they ever come up missing, Kroger was experimenting with debit / credit cards and bonus cards with the swipe of the hand, they have eye scanners in some buildings and at airports, chips in passports, data bases with fingerprints that can process millions in a nanosecond, and even a resort in Spain who has a chip system in place for their vacationers. We hear of a new bar code system , how items can be traced and tracked all over the world, and the eventual doing away with currency.
