Hello everyone!

I've a question regarding a possible second draw, not for this year in particular, but more in general.

Of course, I've always checked the ESC in May of every year to see if I won. And every once in a while, I checked again, sometimes even after one year. For the DV 2015, you could check the entry until September the 30th, 2015, after one year and half. Of course I didn't check that day, or last August.

Likewise, for this year, DV 2016, they advised me to keep the submission code from May 2016 to September 2017. Does it mean that I have to check if I win all the way to September 2017? It seems strange.

So, how does it work if someone doesn't check the entry for a second draw? Does it happen? Does somebody advise you?

I would like to know what the other lottery 'players' have to say;-)

thank you very much!

In the years that there has been a second draw it has been October. I do recall some people reporting they received emails which advised them to check their entries again by KCC, so I presume they do that for everyone who is in a second draw, but I cannot say for sure. The second draws have tended to be very small and in years when they looked to be under quota, so it seems unlikely that there will be a second draw this year...but of course there is no harm checking.

Don't worry Ricky, you are not alone in this ;) I usually check my number 2-3 times before they close it. For me none of the times was successful but I've seen someone from another forum who succeeded after the second check even that it was not the year with the second draw, so you never know. You better do it when they still give you a chance. Like Susie said , no harm :)

Thanks. Well, I usually check different times too. Sometimes even one year after the initial draw. But what scares me is that there is no general rule and I don't know if I have to keep checking until the last day, 30th of September, of the next year. (After one year and half of the initial draw).

Until now I've used reliable third parties who should advise you even for a second draw... Still... There should be a more specific guideline by the State Dept.

Hm, maybe they should give better guidelines but - it's generally not worth checking past early July of a fiscal year as that is when the September interview schedule will have been finalized - and of course you'd need time to get all your documents organised, remember the visa has to be issued by Sept 30 (so checking on Sept 30 is never going to work as you can't do everything in one day).

There is hardly ever a reason to use a third party, unless you don't have Internet access. They have the potential to mess up and all they do is add a cost to an easy, free process.

Thank you very much. Still, July of any given fiscal year should be more than a year after the initial draw. That is a lot of time span. Many people might forget to re-check and this surely add confusion.....

And hence, as i said before, people have reported that they get an email from KCC advising them to check the entrant status check page again for an update if there has been a second draw.

Also I didn't say the draw was in July, just that that would be the latest possible time to check. In fact that would be too late now that I think of it, as it is the last scheduling, and they only schedule for people who have submitted DS260s, which given the turnaround time really makes it around April or May that is the latest "safe" time for checking to get all the processing done. I guess that's why if there is a second draw it is much earlier than that.
