Question about filing while in the US (not planned)

Hello everyone,

My wife is a US citizen, I am Dutch. We got married 2.5 years ago in the US and moved the United Kingdom where we lived since and got a daughter there. My wife got pregnant again and we decided to go back to the US to my wife would have family support here during pregnancy and after birth. My son was born last week and I am supposed to go back to the UK next week, since we still have an apartment there with all our stuff.

Unfortunately my company in the UK decided to lay me off 2 weeks ago and now parents in-law have offered to pay for the visa costs to apply for a green card so I can stay here in the US so I don't have to go back to the UK and sit there without a job.

I am looking into the process but I am a bit confused on what we should file first, the uscis site we can file form I-130 first and wait for approval/pending and then file I-485, though the guide on here says we should file them together. Since we are not really prepared for it, I don't have my birth certificate (and other documents), which is needed for form I-485. Filing I-130 will probably give me some to gather the documents from abroad.

Can anyone help us out?

There is no benefit to filing I-130 and I-485 separately. You should wait until you are ready to file both and file them together.

Well, yes, you file them together. Don't know where "wait until you're ready...." comes into the picture. No visa is involved with this process.
