A little read for anybody who fancies a chuckle and is interested in the medical process at Knightsbridge.

I'll be doing another part covering exactly how to get to the place and what to expect in terms of physical geography (inside and outside), because I find that sort of thing useful and the map provided online didn't seem to quite match up with the streets.

I'm on the 1129 to Euston on Friday for my medical.

Awesome. I would say good luck but it's really straightforward and simple once you're in. I'd recommend a quick study of Google maps instead of the official one though. There seems to be a lot of roadworks going on almost directly opposite the building, so if you see that around Marylebone Lane you're in the right place. Just by a crossroads.

And you have my deepest sympathy for spending so long at Crewe station.

Found it no problem, staff were friendly (assume the S.A.G. was on a day off!). All very straightforward, blood test was painless as were the vaccinations.

The female doctor did however find that I have an enlarged thyroid so I have a referral to my GP for investigation before she'll sign off. She doesn't think it'll be a problem & won't affect the visa but will obviously now cause a delay, especially if I have to wait on referrals from the GP!!!! I'm going to grab an emergency appointment Monday morning & I can get my bloods done at work Monday afternoon if needed so that should speed up the initial start of things. May need to book a private ultrasound dependant on his diagnosis & bloods as that's where I envisage any big delays starting?

My day went like this:

I travelled down with my son & his girlfriend on the 1129. They were off to the England match at Wembley for his 17th birthday so me having the medical worked well for a bit of company on the outward journey. Arrived at Euston at 1pm booked them into their hotel and then had a slow walk over to the medical, still got there 40mins early so sat in the waiting room & charged my phone! Called for paperwork 10 mins before the appointment time & filled in the questionairre. No waiting around between phases - it was basically straight from questionnaire to X-ray to doctor to vaccinations to out the door!

Was out by 4pm so met the kiddies over at the Globe on Baker St for a bit of pre-match atmosphere, headed up to Wembley with them on the tube, had a walk up to the stadium, headed back down Wembley Way, tube back to central London for a loop of Trafalgar Square/The Mall/Horseguards/Cenotaph/Big Ben/Embankment & back on the tube to Euston for the 840pm train home!

Fingers crossed my doctors visit on Monday has some positivity!

Crikey, that must have been a blow. I hope you get some good (and not time consuming) news on Monday. Sounds like you made a day of it though which is always good. London is pretty cool when it's not throwing it down.

Yep, main concern now is getting stuck in the nhs system! I'll update after the docs tomorrow ?

Had my doctors appointment, bloods came back normal & within range so no thyroid problems. Doctor didn't seem too bothered but referred me on a non urgent referral to ENT as is procedure.

NHS referral is about 8 weeks so opted to go private & appointment with specialist on 22nd of this month so we'll see what happens then ?

Knightsbridge may be satisfied with your normal thyroid blood counts if you don't want to hold up waiting on a specialist. The visa clinic doesn't run blood tests for thyroid, so put it off on your GP to make an evaluation of normal. But you are in pretty quickly going private, so not too long of a wait.

Only 4 days to wait till the specialist so I'll see what happens Thursday. If it's going to be more messing about then I'll head back to the GP & see what she can do!

Update on my progress...

The specialist has referred me for an ultrasound but doesn't seem to think it's anything to worry about. He'd worked in SF so was sympathetic to the visa process & coupled with the fact I work for the NHS has got me a quick scan on the 10th November with a review at his NHS clinic the following week when the results are through. Providing the scan is ok he'll do me a letter on the day for Knightsbridge as required. Fingers crossed we're back on track by the end of November!!
