Hi all,

Fiance and I are preparing for our Visa interview on October 13th. We've got all our documentation ready, and we've done quite a bit of reading on what she can and can't bring to the Embassy. However, we were planning on taking a cab to the Embassy, but without a phone we won't be able to call and let the cabby know we've finished up and are ready to head home. I know I read somewhere online that, I, as in the U.S. Petitioner, can bring my phone into the Embassy? That they'll store it for me? Is this true or would we get turned away at the door?

Also, if we can't bring my phone inside, are their payphones or something inside so we can call our cabby to pick us up? Just wanted to check with people here in case we need to start looking at an alternate plan for reaching the Embassy and then heading home.

Thanks,

--Tom

Not true! You cannot take anything, including a cell phone, inside the Embassy other than the required documentation and they have no place to store such items either.

This is from the Embassy K1 Packet 4 FAQ page:

What should I carry to the interview? You should bring only the required documents in an unsealed plastic bag or folder. Mobile phones and most purses/bags are not permitted. We do not provide a facility for storage of any other items.

You'll need to make other arrangements to get a taxi after the interview. Good luck to you both!

Are you positive? I took that list to refer specifically to my Fiance, the Beneficiary. I've also read several posts online that seem to indicate a U.S. Citizen can have his phone stored at the embassy. I just want to be sure, one way or the other, before committing to a certain set of travel plans. So, not that I doubt you, but are you absolutely positive that list refers to the U.S. Petitioner as well?

the third party security agencies will have you submit the cell phones. no one is allowed a cell phone in the embassy.

Well that's a quote straight from the Embassy, so take it any way you like but it refers to everyone, not just the Beneficiary. I wouldn't want to be armed with my cell and get turned away at the door, but that's up to you. Better safe than sorry I always say.

I been to the embassy in Delhi and they have a security stand right outside where people line up where you can check in your phone. It costs 50 rupees I think and they take your phone and give you a number to pick it up. So phones are welcomed but are stored outside. Also it very safe and I had no problems with it.

Also I was about to get a ricshaw right outside the embassy if you cant get a taxi.
