I have been a permanent resident for over 17 years (got gc through marriage but not divorced and remarried, no kids)

So I thought my process to file for citizenship should be simple. I filed in 2011 and they rejected it because as per the letter I had not filed the correct check amount (that was wrong, it was correct, our corp lawyer agreed). So I got the green form that they sent and have asked me to place on top when i re-file my application which I will do now.

Some questions-

  • Should I even include that form since it was way back in 2011?
  • A bit confused about the whole N/A requirement. I see several questions where I write NO and then the follow up questions which in my case will be blank. Should I leave them blank or go crazy and file N/A everywhere???
  • Photos-I went to Kinkos and took regular passport size pics with white background. Will these be okay?
  • I have to add an additional paper to fill in details about employment and school-Is there a template out there that I can use? Should this be a word document?
  • The final signature on N400-does it have to be in blue ink?
  • The check-what should i write on it besides the amount-does it need my A number on the back and name and anything else?
  • Marriage-since i am divorced and have remarried should i include a copy of the prior divorce and current marriage?

Thank you so much for all responses

One thing comes to mind. Do not use the form you filed in 2011. that form is waaayyyyy out of date and will be rejected.

Probably best to start on a new current N-400 application.

On the N-400 it will ask you all about your previous marriages and when you were divorced. They wll also want copies of all these documents, marriage certs, divorce absolute decree etc.

Actually scratch that... You can apply under the 5 year rule.

Look here.

http://www.uscis.gov/n-400

You will find checklists and instructions here.

.

With a bit of time and thought, it is fairly easy to complete.

Your photos albeit correct are also 4 years old. Get new ones. We all age and I think they have to be taken within the last 6 months.

That's right -- submit a fresh package.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thank you. So to clarify, yes I will be sending ALL fresh forms and photos.(However my question was more around the green paper they leave on the top that is the rejection letter and they want me to add that to any future N400 that I send in)

would love some responses on the following questions-

  • A bit confused about the whole N/A (not applicable) requirement. I see several questions where I write NO and then the follow up questions which in my case will be blank. Should I leave them blank or go crazy and file N/A everywhere???
  • I have to add an additional paper to fill in details about employment and school-Is there a template out there that I can use? Should this be a word document?
  • The final signature on N400-does it have to be in blue ink?
  • The check-what should i write on it besides the amount-does it need my A number on the back and name and anything else?
  • Marriage-since i am divorced and have remarried should i include a copy of the prior divorce and current marriage?

  • A bit confused about the whole N/A (not applicable) requirement. I see several questions where I write NO and then the follow up questions which in my case will be blank. Should I leave them blank or go crazy and file N/A everywhere??? If you answer N/A to a question any follow up question pertaining to that question you leave blank.
  • I have to add an additional paper to fill in details about employment and school-Is there a template out there that I can use? Should this be a word document? Not sure but you could just write up the information on a seperate piece of paper and clip it to the form.
  • The final signature on N400-does it have to be in blue ink? I signed my form in the same ink I filled out my application with.
  • The check-what should i write on it besides the amount-does it need my A number on the back and name and anything else? From what I have seen, people usually write the A number in the memo section of the check.
  • Marriage-since i am divorced and have remarried should i include a copy of the prior divorce and current marriage? If the application asks about previous and current marriage, then yes you will want to submit that info to them, not sure if its needed filing under the 5 yr rule, but better safe than sorry I guess. Maybe someone with better knowledge about the 5 yr rule can chime in on that one and correct me if I am wrong.
