Hi everybody,

I just received a request for initial evidence (1-485) from USCIS today. It says " You have submitted an English translation of a foreign birth certificate; please submit a copy of the applicant's foreign birth certificate issued by the appropriate civil authority."

Also in the general notes, they mention that if you submit a document in any language other than English, it must be submitted with a full English translation.

Now, I will submit my Official Arabic Birth Certificate issued by Egyptian authority.

1- Is that all they want or do I have to submit an English translation of the Arabic certificate that I had already submitted first time in my package ?

2- Do you think they most probably won't send me any further RFE for any other reason or it's not a rule ? Because they didn't request anything else other than the Arabic Birth Certificate. I am a bit worried about asking us to submit more of bona fide supporting documents.

1. I am assuming that you only sent the translated copy and not the original. I believe you are supposed to send both. The original in Arabic and the translation in English. So for the RFE, I would send both and not assume that they have the other one you sent.

2. There is no way we can tell.

1- I only sent the translated copy but it's original issued by governmental authority " Ministry of Health in Egypt ". Now I am going to send the original in Arabic plus the translation again as you suggested.

2- Do you think the process of moving forward on my application stopped and everything else will be delayed as it should be because of this RFE ?

1. Good. They need to see exactly what is being translated even if the translation was done by the same government that issued the one in Arabic.

2. An RFE can cause a slight delay but if you respond to the RFE ASAP, it should move forward at a "normal" rate. I have seen people respond to RFEs about other things and the next step was their approval in as little as a week. But again, no one can tell.
