My fiancée had to go for sputum test September 1,2,3. How many samples do you have to have, cause first day she could not cough anything up. She got 1 on the second day. She will go back today her last day. I thought she had to have 3 samples. Please help me, I am very nervous.

Initially there are 3 sputum samples collected over 3 days. Those samples are used to determine if the suspected case is in fact TB. It only takes one of those samples to go positive for the case to be classified as TB positive. You'll receive your call from SLEC about 3 weeks after the sputum collection with your results.

This would be a good time for the two of you to discuss the different process's your going through so you can get your questions answered, and she can get hers. Collectively the two of you will be engaged in the process and knowledge is powerful.

My question is tho do you have to have 3 samples? She may only have 2 samples.

What I know is. They strictly require 3 samples.... I did sputum last July. Its my 6th week this week. Thanks God no call from them.....

yes, she needs 3 sputum sample, one on each day.. they will know the result on the 4th day, if negative, the samples will undergo culture and results will be released after 8wks .. but if she gets a call in between that 8wks,, it means they found something on her samples..

Hi!

I'm currently on Directly Observed Therapy or DOT at Saint Luke's . As what I've known, if one is scheduled for sputum collection and isn't able to cough out phlegm at any of the scheduled days, they may have to be rescheduled for another day. But since your fiance wasn't advised to do so, the sputum collected from her during the 2 days that she was able to cough out phlegm would have sufficed coz if it didn't SLEC for would really set the right expectation that she needs to do extend for another day. I hope everything turns out well for you both.
