No visa packet at the interview

On July 20th we had interview for green card through adjustment of status. The officer said that someone from Department of State didn't send him "visa packet", he noticed it the day of the interview and requested the packet to be send to him . He said that he verified our case and everything is in order and if not missing visa packet our green cards would be approved.

When I asked him what does it mean for us he said that it can mean that we will not get green cards because he has 4 months to review our case. He also said that he will try to get to it before the end of September.

Is there anything we can do at this point?

When I go to USCIS website this is the update I get:

Your interview for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number MSC , was completed, and your case must be reviewed. We will mail you a notice if we make a decision or take further action.

Can we find out what's going on? I can't believe that something like that can actually happen.

Hm, I wonder if he's waiting for the file from KCC. A few people doing AOS have reported delays in this. As he has sent the request now, hopefully it won't take much longer. I think they are supposed to actually request it before the interview ( KCC doesn't know where to send them until notified by the relevant field office).
