GC in the mail?!

Hey there!

I got back home on January 12, 2007 and I still haven't receive the GC in the mail...Any idea how long it takes? How long is too long? Should I be worried?

Wedding: September 6, 2005 in Salt Lake City

Sent I130 (finally!!!): November 3, 2005

NOA1: November 21, 2005

NOA2: March 30, 2006

November 23, 2005: cheque cashed

December 7, 2005: waiting waiting waiting...

December 14, 2005: sent I-129 petition

December 23, 2005: cheque cashed for I-129

December 28, 2005: NOA1

January 9, 2006: waiting waiting waiting!!!

February 6, 2006: RFE

February 15, 2006: RFE sent

February 23, 2006: I-129F APPROVED YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

March 21, 2006: Montreal sent Packet 3

March 30, 2006: I-130 APPROVED...WOW, REALLY?

April 1, 2006: Received Packet 3 (almost thought it was an April Fools joke :)

April 3 or 4, 2006: Packet 3 sent to Montreal

April 24, 2006 - Montreal receives the checklist (they better after 20 days!!!)

INTERVIEW JULY 27, 2006!!!

June 6, 2006 - Packet 4 received

July 27, 2006 - APPROVED!

July 29, 2006 - on the way home!

September, 2006 - I-130 case complete

January 10, 2007 - I-130 INTERVIEW!

APPROVED!!!!!!!

January 11, 2007 - Picked up passport with visa!

January 12, 2007 - I'm home

I-130 Process took 1 year, 2 months and 8 days

Back in 2005 I got mine in around a months time! seems to be around 4-7 weeks on avg from VJ readings.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Claudeth got hers about a week after the approval notice.

I would definitely not be freaking out, the stamp in your passport is all you need for now, you're okay :) Maybe after 6 or 8 weeks you could call & check into it, but don't worry too much :)

I130 at NVC

12/14/06 - case number assigned

12/25/06 - DS3032 & AOS Fee Bill Mailed (phone system updated 12/27)

12/27/06 - emailed choice of agent; 12/29/06 - received email from NVC confirming choice of agent!

01/01/07 - NVC generated IV Fee Bill (postmarked 1/17 though!)

01/03/07 - returned AoS Fee Bill via Priority Mail (James' shortcut)

01/15/07 - NVC generated AOS package

01/22/07 - received IV Fee Bill - overnighted back to NVC same day

01/27/07 - recieved I864 package; 01/29/07 - overnighted I864 to NVC

01/29/07 - DS230 generated (phone system not updated, email response 2/5/07)

02/05/07 - mailed DS-230 to NVC via express mail

02/20/07 - CASE COMPLETE!!

04/18/07 - INTERVIEW!!!! - APPROVED!!!!

09/28/06 - NOA1

1/25/07 - approved ...NOA2 via snail mail - 1/29/07

03/16/07 - chose not to return packet 3 to Montreal

If I remember correctly my original GC came about a month after the interview and my 10 year GC came I think about 2 months later or something. All depends though on where you filed, how busy they are and so on. I'd say if you don't hear anything after 6 months get an INFOPASS appointment and get them to check it out.

Or you might actually be able to find out by calling them off the www.uscis.gov website if you have your reciept number...

Aug - Filed for AOS

Sep - Recieved EAD

Sep - Recieved Advanced Parole

2004

Jan - Interview, accepted for Green Card

Feb - Green Card Arrived in mail

Oct - I-751 sent off

Jan - 10 year Green Card accepted

Mar - 10 year Green Card arrived

Oct - Filed N-400 for Naturalization

Nov - Biometrics done

Nov - Just recieved Naturalization Interview date for Jan.
