I'm Looking for Answers about I-134 Joint Sponsor Forms

So last year I was a student and just make the cutoff for the 100% of the US poverty guidelines (including assets), and believe I will need a joint sponsor. My parents have agreed to and are enthusiastic to do it, however because of a recent identity theft in the family (off a tax return form no less), they are reluctant to send tax returns and that information anywhere, much less internationally. They are ok with the I-134, though. I would like to know if a copy of the tax return is 100% essential or would a letter from my dad's employer and a signed I-134 be ok? Or should I be looking for a new joint sponsor? Thanks for the input!

You will need to read the embassy instructions for what is required to include with the I-134. Usually the most recent tax return is required. Anything you are required to provide with the I-134, your co-sponsor will have the same requirements.

Each one is embassy specific. For Montreal Canada it looks like this: n. Proof of Financial Support (Form I-134) and photocopy of supporting documents (IRS transcript or photocopy of the most recent Federal income tax return, bank statements, employment pay slips, etc.)


Each place has different needs though, which ever country you're looking at your fiance coming from, you can always ask on the regional forms. It also helps to fill out more info on your profile (like the country of the intending immigrant!) so we can help ya better.
