Renewing Canadian Passport from U.S. So annoying!

So, I just had to renew my passport from here in the US and thought I would save 100 bucks ( $160 vs $260) by using my parents' address in Canada rather than my US address (then, have my parents send the new passport to me). I got a call from the passport office, asking if I was going to be at the Canadian address to sign for the passport when it was delivered, because it ABSOLUTELY needed to be signed for by no one but me. I replied in the negative, and had to pony up the extra $100. Couple weeks later, I find my new passport sitting outside my door! No signature required, apparently. Aaah!

In Canada you have to pick it up at the post office and sign. They have more lax rules regarding mail here in my opinion. Annoying as heck!
