Another post on my husband's missing greencard & non-existent social security card.

What are the next steps? We got *one* letter since his US entry saying they goofed at border and we should mail in a copy of his stamped passport (did that immediately). I've filed the "missing greencard" form (you have to wait a certain amount of days before doing that). We're pushing 3 months and not a peep, or response. Should I call misinformation-800#?

Social security is still F*d up and they refuse to help him. Is there somewhere I need to mail a nasty gram?

We're feeling tired and fed up. I found a complaint form online (but only if you think you've been wronged in a SSA hearing... or something or other).

:( I'm just tired. I think after all we've gone thru with all the steps to be legal, he's here (I am happy), but he can't get drivers license, get "official" at his job, etc.

Throwing it out to you fine folks. Got any ideas? Who do we need to B*tch to? Or is this just SOL situation, sit and wait like usual... ? :help:

PS - He's also worried the social security card got in the wrong hands. Should we be worried about this? Would there be a way to know if someone is using the #? (they gave him a print out, but no card)

He's been getting paid with it, and we're getting ready to file taxes with that number...... I was just curious if there is a way to know if it got jacked.

You could do a credit report and see if it has been used. That or ask ss for a printout of the social security contributions (that'd show if someone else was declaring income on it).

Out of boredom I called the 1 800# about the arrival of my GC (not sure which one) And they stated that they could not do anythign for 30 (maybe 90??) days, and if it had not arrived by then , to call back. So if this were happening to I, i would cal lthe 1 800# and see what they have to say, be a bit forcefull, but polite, and if that doesnt work get the USA citizen spouse to contact his congressman!! Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Social Security can't or won't even tell you if a card has been issued?

Inquiring into your own credit does not affect your credit score. Unsolicited inquiries for the purpose of an offer of credit also shouldnt affect it. Mutiple inquires within a certain length of time( Im thinking 2 weeks to 30 days) to determine credit worthiness also should not have an adverse affect and are only seen as a single inquiry. The thinking being that you should not be penalized for " shopping" for a good rate.

Good Luck woman!!

Social Security can't or won't even tell you if a card has been issued?

First time he was there they made a typo. They wrote "th" as his street (we are on "4th") they blaim him for the typo, and they won't help him, give him any info as to whether they did or did not mail one, and I called the 800# for them, they said "he has to go to office that made the typo, we can't correct it" So that was a lot of help (not!).

He was able to finally wrangle the # out of them (printout) but that was about it. 3 times there and each time he comes home very angry (not ez to get this guy angry either). I am thinking maybe he goes to another city? and tries there? Cuz our local one is not caring, and not helping.

Potentially DUMB question. Regarding his CR-1, the original letter came from Texas Ctr, and that is where we mailed the passport copy; Will going to our Local Infopass (Laguna Niguel) work?
