Hi All,

My in-laws want to visit USA. I guess they just need to apply for the tourist visa. They need for 1-2 months but I guess it is given for a minimum of 6 months period

  1. So lets say it is given for 6 months, do they need to fly and come back India 6 months from the visa issue date ?
  2. Can someone help me providing the exact link where to find all the needed documents and process ?
  3. If they are applying from India ( Delhi) , usually how many weeks before they should apply (in case they want to ome here in June 3rd week) ?
  4. At what point of time can they get questioned about the reason\intent for visiting USA ?. Can they be denied visa if the reason isn't ok ?

Thanks

Sidhartha

They would have to enter within the validity of the visa.

Look on the a consulate web site, easy enough to find.

Of course they can be refused either the visa at the consulate or entry at the POE.

There is no such thing as a minimum 6 months period; who told you that? Based on CBP’s satisfaction at POE, the length of approved stay on a tourist visa could be anywhere from a few weeks to a maximum 180 days. Once a visa is approved and issued, they can request entry any time during the validity period.

Check the US embassy’s site on how to apply. Not sure how a particular June week is relevant as you mentioned they want to visit the US. The Delhi embassy is known to take about 2 months on average.

Depending on CBP and the ticket at POE the visitors is given

time by CBP. many get up to 6 mths, however don't think that

spending 5 mths 3 wks, then attemping to return a short while

after will be overlooked if this takes place 2/3 times, the time

given or on ticket should be adhered to for future welcomes.

In cases ppl can apply for an extension with reasons , since only

millionaires are expected to afford 6 mths & over vacations and of

course they don't take such long vacations since they have to watch

their millions grow.
