Visa Renewal Interview for friend - Translator

I've been helping out a friend with her visa with her visa renewal and had no problems.
I scheduled her for an interview at the US embassy here in Japan, but the problem is, she doesn't know any English at all and am worried that the interview might not go as smoothly. I would go with her but I read that under no circumstances can anyone accompany the person being interviewed unless they make an appointment too, which I would have to do.

What would be the best solution? Does the embassy provide translators or can I get be an exception?
