So he condemned the riots and the underlying causes. That sounds like a intelligent point of view. I go back to what I said earlier, the troublemakers could care less about the issue at hand. The protest gives them a good excuse to cause damage and not much chance of getting caught. And I'd feel the same if it was white people rioting too. Burning your own neighborhood and the businesses of people of your own race is idiotic, IMO. I personally don't see a justification for it.

There's no way you could. Another point Dr. King brings up:

Urban riots must now be recognized as durable social phenomena. They may be deplored, but they are there and should be understood. Urban riots are a special form of violence. They are not insurrections. The rioters are not seeking to seize territory or to attain control of institutions. They are mainly intended to shock the white community. They are a distorted form of social protest. The looting which is their principal feature serves many functions. It enables the most enraged and deprived Negro to take hold of consumer goods with the ease the white man does by using his purse. Often the Negro does not even want what he takes; he wants the experience of taking. But most of all, alienated from society and knowing that this society cherishes property above people, he is shocking it by abusing property rights. There are thus elements of emotional catharsis in the violent act. This may explain why most cities in which riots have occurred have not had a repetition, even though the causative conditions remain. It is also noteworthy that the amount of physical harm done to white people other than police is infinitesimal and in Detroit whites and Negroes looted in unity.

I don't agree with it, but I understand.

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” – Coretta Scott King

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

troublemakers who could care less about the issue at hand, but the story/picture of the mom hitting her son went viral and the son, turns out, one troublemaker was lucky enough to have a someone take him out of the situation. but then again, the parents who told their son to turn himself in..$500,000.00 bail and possible life in prison. that's insane. i believe, mlk would have certainly stood behind the rioters, condemning the act but not the people.

The media may have had no interest until the rioting started, but that's no excuse for the rioting. Dr. King would not approve.

and i'm not excusing rioting, it doesn't need an excuse. i can't see myself ever rioting, i'm a live and let live sort of gal. but who knows, if the current admin gets their way and takes over texas/texan guns shortly we might all be rioting to keep our butts out of obama's death camps.

We determined earlier that the mother beating her son was a publicity stunt organized by Obama so it would look good to the public.

Because if they burned down a neighborhood that wasn't majority non whites, how many causalities do you think would pile up? Imagine if they rioted in a middle class white neighborhood. People like Lib would swear Christmas came early this year. There would be a massacre, and perfectly legal since they felt "threatened". They'd shoot them in the streets like wild animals. And no jury would convict a white homeowner shooting black people in a riot. There wouldn't be a trial to begin with, nor charges to be brought up.

White people don't remember when they had the White Night Riots when Harvey Milk was assassinated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Night_riotsor the Rosewood Massacre back in 1923: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosewood_massacre But the Pumpkin Patch riots in NH? That's ok, just kids letting off steam...

For the last 30 years or so, it's been black people frustrated that the system continues to fail them. We're told to let justice work, but when you get killed on camera in front of a few witnesses, and still the cops continue to get acquitted, people get angry. But they do it in their own neighborhoods, because they know the majority of the US doesn't care about them. Look at Lib's comments. Let it burn, as long as it stays there. No one gave a damn about Baltimore before this, just like Ferguson. Now, when someone takes a piss there and they're black, we'll have a thread about it.

Most people don't understand it because it just doesn't apply to them. You're not oppressed nor have your rights been taken from you. That is what makes this country great. But from my perspective, it's a whole other playbook being used...

Burn your own neighborhood, because hard working people who work hard for everything they have, that try to lead crime free lives and be productive citizens my shoot your sorry ARRSE if you try to burn the stuff they take pride in.

Sounds about right to me .

But yet not desperate enough to get a job. Poverty caused hard work during the depression. What changed ?
