Moving: Australia to USA

Hi All,

We are currently planning the logistic of this process, and would like some advice and to hear your experiences regarding moving personal belongings. She is from Australia (as the topic subject states), has her own apartment/flat/unit, and I have everything here in the US. She does have quite a bit of clothes (not shocked...?!?), and some sentimental things that she will want to bring.

She will not bring any electrical items, since our electricity is not compatible, so all of that is being sold or given to her family.

What I am asking for is advice or what company to use when she wants to send a few boxes of items to the US? Is there a company or place near Sydney where she can buy a specific box (or drop off a box) to have it shipped to the US?

There is no need to have it sent overnight, since we are in TSC pergatory, but a reasonable time to me would be approximately 2 months to have it shipped. I know of shipping companies in the US, but neither of us know of reputable companies here in Australia.

Hi, we are using these people to send over some photos and photo frames. They can also sort out big boxes of clothes and belongings.

They should be country wide.

We are then hiring a shipping container and sending over our belongings (my shoes and clothes and hubby's shoes and clothes, personal belongings, kitchen products etc) and an Australian ute.

Just google overseas shipping companies and Call up and get some quotes depending on what all will be shipped. Also,the Australian regional forum on this website has other companies which people have used good luck!

Depending on how much she is actually going to send, the cheaper alternative may be to just send it via the Post Office ....I was in Australia visiting family in December and sent back a box of goodies to here and it took 3 weeks to get here. It's not cheap but as I said it just depends on how much she actually has to send back.

I'm just wondering if anyone can share recent experience of sending their stuff to the U.S.?

I've started looking at Packsend but I'm also having a dilemma about how much stuff to keep vs buy in the US- mostly talking about clothes/shoes and nice kitchen plates/china.

I know in the end it's a personal decision but I'm thinking it would be nice to have a few familiar nice things but the $$$ cost will influence my decision.

Did you send stuff once you had the visa interview or after you got the visa etc?
