Hey Everyone,

So I have a quick question which I am confused on by reading few threads here on VJ!

When does your k1 fiance visa 6 months start? Isit after you have your medical or when they actually issue you the visa after the interview?

Also just one more Q, need some advice

My passport is expiring next year end of March, do you think I should renew it here in the UK? Or do it in the US! Ps. I've already submitted Ds160

Thank You

They issue visa based on medical's date. So if it was done right before the interview then will be almost 6 months assuming visa is approved on the spot, which usually is. Then few days to have it issued in the passport.

You always have option to renew it in US, but that usually takes a trip to the consulate, so if you will live far got one then is better to do it in your home country.

K1 visas used to be valid for six months from issue date. With some changes to medical things expiring, it was changed to valid for six months from your medical date. With a London interview, your visa will probably be valid for five months or less when you receive it because the medical will be a minimum of one month before, the interview.

Passport: It will be renewed in the UK regardless. You will have to send it from the US and pay more for the return. The British Embassy in Washington DC, used to be the only place in the US to issue British passports, but they no longer do that. All are issued in the UK. If you are a fiancé who will change your name when you marry, you might want to wait. It is okay to have a different passport at the interview. London actually says if your DS-160 info changes, pull up the saved version and edit it and resubmit. if you didn't save it, then do another. Print the new confirmation and tell them at your interview your new DS-160 confirmation so they pull up the corrected version.
