I-134 or I-864?

We are planning to file for a K1-Visa. I have been reading almost everything on this great site but could not find an answer to this question: what is the difference between the I-134 and the I-864? For a K-1 Visa application the I-134 has to be used, right?

And another question: I actually have some assets in my bank account in Germany. What form do I have to file that these assets are recognized in the process?

Thanks for the help.

Kurt

Yes, I-134 is for K1. I-864 is for AOS.

No forms have to be filled out. Just write a statement that you would like these assets considered on top of the I-134. Click here for a list of what you can submit under "Applicant's Own Funds" (this is page 1 of OF-167 from Packet 3).

Hope that helps!

I-864 is for immigrant visas & Adjustment of Status.

I-134 is used for non-immigrant visas.

An I-134 may be used in a K-1 application; an I-864 may not be.

re assets: who are you? More information required. You need to include all pertinant information in your posts (and/or use the timeline and signature features).

If you are the foreign fiance, and your assets are substantial enough, the CO may let you use them. Document thoroughly (with translation if necessary). This is often called 'self sponsoring' and not all Consulates allow the practice.

If you are the US fiance, again, document well.

Understand that it is a practical fact that the K-1 will likely not be working in the US for the first 4-5 months or more, and plan accordingly.

Yes, that is correct. I simply assumed that the OP was the foreign fiance when he said "my bank account in Germany"!
