Birth Certificate for I129F Packet

Hi,

So I can't seem to get a clear answer from all the sites I've read about this.

We are just about to submit our K-1 visa packet to the Dallas Lockbox. The instructions on the I129F form states we recommend you don't send originals and photocopies instead. However, the US birth certificate states it is illegal to copy and I've read from some forums that it must be a certified copy of the certificate. We have a certified copy of the birth certificate as well as the original. Should we just send the certified copy being as we don't need it back? Or is a simple photocopy of the birth certificate efficient enough?

Thanks for all your help!

A photocopy is enough. If they ever doubt it, they can always ask to see it. I can tell you that USCIS never saw my (petitioner) birth certificate except as a photocopy through all the processes listed below in my signature.

The beneficiary's certified or original will be viewed at the interview in London and given back.

if you haven't..you can also send in photocopies of your US Passport. Ya Know. It'll also serve a double purpose if you travelled outside the country to see your fiance(ee) in the past 2 yrs.

Just want to chime on on this bit.

If you want it back, make sure you ask.

At my interview they kept all my originals as they have done for other people too.

I was just so happy and flustered at being approved, I didnt have a brain to ask for originals back.

So be careful on that one.

Normally they keep the photocopy you provide and hand back the originals. Guess you both were flustered and the interviewer forgot too.
