I was approved in Montreal pending their receipt of my criminal record check from China. This is going to take a month due to Chinese New Year. My grandparents bought me a ticket to go down to the USA while I wait.

Will I run into issues at the border?

The general forum recommendation is to NOT make any travel plans until you have the visa in your passport, and the passport is in your hands.

If you are a Canadian citizen, here is some information about visiting the US: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/619/~/visiting-the-u.s.---documents-required-for-canadian-citizens-%2F-residents-%2F

You may be subject to additional scrutiny by CBP since you have already declared an immigration intent due to your ongoing IR1/CR1 visa process. You will likely want to bring documentation that you have significant ties to Canada, such that you will return to Canada at the end of your visit.

Hope that you have a good Spring Festival.

Good luck on your immigration journey.
