name changed after got my citizenship, apply passport

Hi everyone, i have a qus,

I just finished my oath ceremony yesterday, and got my name changed,

If i apply passport now, is that ok?

Coz i didn't go to SS and DMV change my name yet, if i apply passport now, my old name on my DL, is that ok? Or i need to change ny DL first then apply passport?

You can apply for passport now and then go with passport and naturalization certificate to update SS and DL.

Hello congratulations on achieving your last step and becoming a fellow American citizen. you will have to change your drivers licence since its quickest to do because you are required to provide a second identification form in your passport application. I would advice you to go with the drivers license because it takes 1 day to do it rather than waiting almost 2 weeks for a social security card.

the problem is you have to provide a second form of identification (such as a drivers license or social security card), your old drivers license will most likely get the officer confused thats why I advised you to update it before applying for the passport. Sorry for not being clear.

The Certificate of Naturalization can serve *both* as your evidence of citizenship and as your photo ID, so you can do passport first and then the rest.

Here's how the State Department lists the requirements (also, I have friends who have recently done it this way):

Evidence of U.S. Citizenship

You must submit one of the following original documents as primary evidence of U.S. citizenship (photocopies are not acceptable):

• Certified U.S. Birth Certificate (must meet all of the following requirements):
  • Issued by City, County, or State of birth
  • Lists bearer's full name, date of birth, and place of birth
  • Lists parent(s) full names
  • Has date filed with registrar's office (must be within one year of birth)
  • Has registrar's signature
  • Has embossed, impressed, or multicolored seal of registrar
• Previous U.S. Passport (may be expired, must be undamaged)
• Consular Report of Birth Abroad
• Certificate of Naturalization/Citizenship

Photo Identification

When you submit your application, you must present one of the following primary photo identification documents, and submit a photocopy of that document:

• Valid Driver's License (plus a second ID if issued in a different state than where you apply)
• Undamaged U.S. Passport (if issued less than 15 years ago)
• Certificate of Naturalization
• Valid government ID (city, state, or federal)
• Valid Military ID

I would advise changing the information with SSA first (since that should only take a day or so to update their systems), get a new DL, and then apply for a passport. Unless you have a need to go to a Passport Agency to get your passport expedited, the Acceptance Agent is going to take your Naturalization Certificate and you will get it back in the mail after the Department of State is done with it after issuing your passport.

USCIS says to wait ten days to update your Social Security record. It doesn't get updated right away:

I've had two friends, with name changes, apply for passports (not at agencies) with expedited service with just their Certificates of Naturalization, get their passports and Certificates back within a week or two and they then updated SSA and driver's license and updated everything else from there.
