vaccinations for K1 visa

I had my medical exam on 4th February and the nurse said I only need second dose of MMR and Proof I have had Tetanus,Diphtheria and Polio Vaccine in the last 10 years (Tdap I think for short) and the seasonal flu vaccine.

She recommended I ask my GP if can get the vaccines I need or I can wait until I am in America, I have heard getting the vaccinations in America is expensive.

The nurse at knightsbridge doctors gave me a letter to give my GP or US civil surgeon.

My question is can I get those vaccines MMR, Tdap and Flu for free under NHS??

I know it's a silly question but I wanted to see if anyone knows.

I am not sure if they are free under NHS as I am an american however,assuming you do not need any addition vaccines to be approved for the K1 and only need them for AOS and if you plan on going on your future spouse's insurance, you can go for a yearly physical and get all those shots for free under Obama Care aka "the affordable care act" in the USA. You would then need to see a civil surgeon and have them transcribe your vaccination record onto an I693 for a fee. The easiest thing would of been to have all shots before the medical and have it on the ds3025 since the USCIS will have this on file when you apply for AOS. However, since you are post medical exam now, you will need to have the vaccinations transcribed by a civil surgeon once you get to the states regardless of whether you have them done in England or the USA. My wife brought her ds3025 and proof of her vaccines she got in the states to a civil surgeon and paid $48 to have it transcribed. Be careful though, a lot of civil surgeons will try to convince you that you will need a whole new medical exam which is not true as long as you apply for AOS within one year of arriving. I hope this helps somewhat.

Many GPs will give them free, but they don't have to because it's for immigration purposes. It's up to your individual doctor. Some people say they need them for travel in order to get them for free.

Because you didn't get them before you medical, and signed off at Knightsbridge, you will have to go to a USCIS designated civil surgeon in the US to sign off on your immunizations. You may not need the flu jab because flu season ends March 31. If you go to the civil surgeon after that then he will sign off without one because it will not be flu season. Depends on the timing of your appointment in the US.

I plan to go to my GP on Monday with my letter from the Knightsbridge nurse and ask about my vaccines, I will ask if and how much it would cost.

The reason I asked on here if I can get free on NHS, is because my Fiance and I can't afford expensive prices, partly due to the fact transferring the money to my bank account has a high bank fee. I don't work at the moment as we are almost at the end of the K1 visa process.

When I was getting my booster tdap at my GP, I luckily saw a nurse who didn't know if I had to pay or not.

She couldn't find a doctor to ask so just gave it to me free of charge!

Because it is for immigration purposes, that's why you may have to pay. Or hopefully you'll get lucky like I did!

(Try not to tell them you are moving to America, I mistakenly did, and when I wanted to book an appointment one last time before I left (a week before) they had already removed me from the records without telling me. Really messed everything up as I had no time to re register or find a new GP. I was so angry.. Hadn't even told them when I was moving just that I would be. And I don't understand how to get one in the states!)

I'd be careful about that.

The problem with getting them done in America is that you will need to have a new form completely filled out by a CS.

And most people have found they won't just fill it out and add the new shot.

Many people on this forum have stated that they have had to pay for an entire new medical which costs nearly 500 dollars.

So it didn't matter if the injection itself is cheaper.

The form you will need for AOS because the one from Knightsbridge won't be complete and therefore useless could cost you a hell of a lot more.

I really do urge you to finish it in the uk, send the results to Knightsbridge and have them finish the short form you can use for AOS.

It will save you a lot of money and hassle.

It's valid but a civil surgeon will have to sign off on a new immunization form. Take all your shot records. He will compile everything even if some are from UK and others from US doctor or even a drugstore clinic.

When you come to the USA, are you going to be on your spouse's insurance? If so get the shots here for free when you take your yearly physical. I believe that once you have taken the medical for the embassy, it is final and you will have to see a civil surgeon here. Like I stated previously most civil surgeons will try to make you take the exam over again so you will need to call around to find one who knows what they are talking about and will be willing to only transcribe the vaccines. There is a post in the adjustment of status forum where people stated which civil surgeons they went to that were willing to transcribe their vaccines for them without requiring a new medical. I would scour that list and find one near where you will be living. That is what I did.
