Question for y'all:

How did you organize your papers? I punched two holes in the top and planned on attaching them with one of those metal fasteners, but it turns out the holes are too far apart. Any alternate suggestions?

And I was going to affix sticky tabs to the bottom with the different types of info so they could be flipped to easily...but then I was thinking that they might not like having a sticky tab on things like the I129F form. Any ideas?

Or does this sound okay?

After wrestling with the fasteners and realizing that the holes were too far apart, I started writing the check. Hadn't noticed that I had given myself a papercut and proceeded to bleed all over the check. Unbelievable.

my lawyer put together my papers and they were in a simple buff coloured folder with the holes at the top and a sliding metal bar fastener. He also added those coloured tab insert sheets (the ones with the little coloured tabs sticking out with the subject matter printed on the tabs). I guess this was the alternative to sticky tabs. I think generally they dont consider the presentation too much but if its easy for the officer to read and flip easily to the different sections, it cant be a bad thing! Bad luck with the paper cut though - probably best to write a new check!

I used a small binder clip - nothing more! The papers were in the order as suggested in the guides and no problems at all!

repunch the holes or leave well enough a lone and use a binder clip. maybe you can use a twist tie to hold them together though the holes.

people have reported returned apps with holes punched correct distance apart on top (not for reasons of how they were submitted, for substantive reasons like mis-dated checks, etc), so you may as well get the correctly spaced holes in there since it sounds like someone at USCIS will have to do that anway.

sticky tabs are fine - use colored sheets of paper as spacers so you don't stick the tabs ON The official forms if that's a concern to you. probably makes it easier anyway.

i did a two hole punch on top and used fasteners...but not the bar kind that fits across to both. one goes in one hole, another in the other. like these

i also did the dividers on the bottom but put sheets they stuck to instead of sticking them to any actual documents.

good luck, girl! lets get ours out at the same time! i'm still waiting on my damn passport i had expedited. grrrrrrr
