Good evening members,

I'm a US citizen, and I'm planning to bring my parents and sister to the US. My parents will retire in a few years from their jobs in Dominican Republic. The point is that they are not ready to come live here yet. They want to retire fist, so I'm not submitting an application for them for the next two or three years. My sister, on the other hand, graduated from college, she is 23 y.o. and unmarried. I know that if I petition her is going to be about 12 years before she can come, so I think that, at the end, it's going to be the same amount of time if I petition her or if my parents do it. I prefer to do it myself, so I can start the process ASAP, instead of waiting for my parents to be ready to come. I just want to save time for my sister, but I am not sure if this the most clever way to do it.

Thank you!

File the I-130 for your sister.

Life is full of uncertainty, and it's not a guarantee your parents will immigrate and petition her.

If and when your parents immigrate, they can file additional I-130s for their daughter.

Under any petition filed by an LPR parent, the child must stay unmarried.

Under the petition filed by a sibling, your sister can get marry and bring her spouse and children with her.

You never know what will happen in a few years. Better to have several paths to the U.S.

ditto

since it is a very long process, I'd have more than one i130 filed on her behalf

but as you say it will be probable the same time if they aren't coming soon and with your parents, your sister has to be unmarried all this time

so start the process for your sister now, and then forget about it, let her live her life, if she marries and has children, they will be derivatives under your sisters petition and they will come together

as said life is uncertain and at that point your sister might not even be interested in coming, but at least she has a choice

Do not rely simply on one I-130.

Sad story. Not my family. LPR father filed for his unmarried over 21 years old daughter in 2011. The I-130 was approved in the F2b category in 2013. He now has terminal cancer. His wife sure wished she had filed a separate I-130 for their daughter. Since the petition will die with the petitioner, they will spend more than $1000 to try for humanitarian reinstatement when the father dies. Would have been less stress and cost less for mom to file a second I-130.
