I would like to ask which documents are needed for AOS for a contractor? I work for a painting/decorating company.
What should I send off with the forms? Especially the Affidavit of support? Any kind of proof?

Also, what proof should be taken to the interview? Want to be fully prepared.

Read the instructions for the I-864 to get all the details. It's 13 pages and no post on VJ is going to give you every detail.

Not knowing much about your job, I'll take a general guess at your situation. A contractor is considered self-employed to the IRS, so your tax return will include a Schedule C and Schedule SE. The complete tax return and your Form 1099-MISC (from the painting company) goes with the I-864. Or you may submit a tax return transcript instead. The Decorating company could provide you a letter confirming that you work for them as a full time contractor and they paid you $xxxxxx.xx during 2014. You could send the most recent 6 months worth of pay stubs from your paychecks.

However as self-employed any expenses you claim on the tax return will reduce your income (Schedule C-Profit and Loss from Business) and the USCIS will look at line 22 of your tax return and not the gross you are paid. Example-- you take in $25,000. You claim $5000 business expenses for things like your car, equipment you provide, uniforms...then to USCIS your income is only $20,000 based on your tax return, no matter what the employer letter says. It's a little harder when you are self-employed if you take big business deductions.
