... its easy to hold to paranoid assumptions about what "criminal types" look like, which taken by themselves amounts to little more than simple stereotyping. If you live in an area like that, as I currently do, you are confronted with "those people" on a daily basis and you inevitably learn to think differently.

Yes, when that first 'brutha' in baggy pants and a bandana walks in your direction at 6:30AM on a deserted NJ Transit train platform (it's Saturday) and instead of killing/robbing you, he stands next to you to wait for the same train... and mutters something about how cold it is, in intelligible English (not Ebonics) ... you learn to think differently.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

He said Muslims were being used to set up a "police state" and "dictatorship", adding: "They need some excuse to seize that control and they are using Muslims for that. Just look what happened in Germany — Hitler was an elected leader. He started to persecute Jews and the same is happening to Muslims today.

The whole Muslim issue is whole different story. None the less, that is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. It was people in the name of Islam who bombed London.. Naturally these same people will be targeted. Nothing like Hilter exterminating Jews.. What does this guy have to say about the London bombings as well as both of the other failed terror plots??

Something I learned a long time ago is that prevention is better than cure..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

That is the point though. If a higher portion of group XYZ is committing crimes then group XYZ will need to be scrutinized more closely. Hence the successful anti-terror policing in the UK..

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA FUNNIEST POST EVER

   Define success. Falsifying evidence, fitting people up, state sponsored execution, murdering an unarmed electrician in a subway train, the UK hauled before the international courts and embarrassed with a disparaging judgement and award of huge damages????? You have a strange definition of success.

8/10 for the troll however, one of the best I have seen here yet

That is the problem with the US. Everyone just accepts it.. It says something coming from you considering you know people who dress like that would be looked down on in Europe and probably Africa for that matter..

Tell me of one other developed country that has as many no-go zone shitholes areas??

What about the prevention of 3,500 deaths by foiling the air hijacking plot.. Or was that a failure by your standards..

I guess that ghetto is norm for you. Philadelphia and Ireland.

PS Why am i not surprised an Irish person is bagging the UK..

That shooting really was obscene - as was the Met's justification of it, which certainly did amount to some sort of ethnic profiling.

I want you to sit down and get a nice adult to comfort you. I have two shocking revelations to break to you.

1 There was no such credible threat

2 Your pin up girl Dame Edna is really a man ;)

Animals have more sense than we do sometimes....if you're a gazelle at the local watering hole, you're going to react differently if rabbit approaches than if a lion approaches.

What a horrible and insulting analogy.

How is it insulting? Are honestly going to tell me that if a man walks up to you at night wearing gang clothes you won't be the slightest bit more uncomfortable than if it were a man in a business suit and briefcase?

I think what Scott is trying to say that is that we each evaluate strangers by external criteria, given that it's the only evidence we have of their nature. Often, we don't have the time (or the interest) to "get to know" others on the street, so our ideas of them are internalized by how they carry themselves, body language and of course...how they dress. Whether or not this is "right" is moot point -- we each do it. ;)

Well you could always try THIS ONE

Nice try.. There is not one area of Melbourne I could not travel through at night..

Some kids in Britain do dress like that though... what do you think "Chavs" are?

Ali G in the house...

Which country does not have them. I am sure they are also picked on by the police in the UK as they are in Australia..

The problem is when that external criteria becomes the basis of law enforcement policy - of which the Menezes shooting is an infamous example.

What happens when African-American cops target African-American gangsters.. Or are they also profiling and basically being racists..

Yes, that is still profiling.

eta: although I don't know what you mean by "gangsters" and I suspect you mean people you would perceive to look like gangsters.
