E-3 with overseas salary

Hi all,

I qualify for all aspects of an E-3 visa (Australian citizen, highly compensated, specialty occupation) and planning to apply later this year. However, I'm hoping to keep my employment and salary payment offshore since I will likely be spending a LOT of time traveling and won't hit the 183 day minimum physical presence in the US that triggers US tax residency.

Any issues obtaining an E-3 visa, using it for frequent and lengthy periods in the US, but continuing to be paid from an overseas subsidiary of my company?

What is your need for a US visa if your aren't going to be employed here and paying taxes ?
