Hello Members,

Greetings to everyone, I'm new here and I will be grateful if someone can enlighting me on the right birth certificate that the beneficiary need to submit at NVC for CR-1. My wife filed fiance visa for me last year and I was denial at the interview. During the interview process I submitted a short form birth certificate issued at one particular Local goverment in Nigeria, the birth certificate was accepted at the US embassy/consulate in Trinidad where I attended my interview. Now I have been reading different post on this site and at NVC website regarding the accepted birth certificate, I am now apply for another birth certificate at National Population Commission in Nigeria which I think is well accepted. My question is: Is it possible to submit both the Old birth certificate and the new one (Short Form and Long Form)? Which one can I submit between this birth certificate? I am totally confused on what to do. Please advice....Thanks in advance!

NVC and embassy in Lagos will only accept the long form which has all the parental information they want to see. You could order both but the long form is what is required.

Thank you TEE1 and dwheel76 your response is greatly appreciated. Dwheel76, do you think I should submit both short and long form copies to the NVC? I'm attending my interview at US consulate in Trinidad. Please, clarify if I should submit both.

No long form is all they need. sending both will just get you check listed and waste 60 days. If you look at the short form I believe it doesn't have all the parent details. They need that. So get the Long form.

i would like to chip this in:

you might have to do an attestation of birth, if you're above 18 years old at the NATIONAL POPULATION COMMISSION (NPC) OFFICE, AT BODE THOMAS LAGOS, this what i believe will be accepted,

they would need your long form of the birth certificate or you can get a declaration of birth at the high court , submit either of this two at the NPC OFFICE AND THEY PROCESS THE ATTESTATION OF BIRTH FOR YOU. FEEL FREE TO DO MORE FINDINGS,
