My wife is filing for citizenship. One of the required documents is a copy of my divorce decree from a previous marriage. Does it need to be a certified copy, or is a copy of a certified copy okay to send with the application? Thanks.

In the Guides section here on VJ, under citizenship requirements, it says send copies and USCIS will request originals if needed. I take that to mean a "copy of a certified copy", as you say, would be okay. I assume you sent the same with your I-129F application to USCIS, so it stands to reason that it will be fine at this point, too.

I believe a certified copy was needed for the I-129, and that's what I sent. That's why I'm wondering about this time.

Well, you may have sent a certified copy, but I did not. And I had no problem. If it was "required" with the I-129F, then I should have. Hence, my previous post.

Just because you got away with an uncertified copy of the the divorce decree with your i-129F does not mean you should recommend it to others. I'm actually looking for facts here, not opinions or what some people may or may not have gotten away with. The certified divorce decree is a requirement for the i-129F, and some people have received RFE's for not supplying one.

Does anyone else know the requirements for the divorce decree when applying for citizenship?
