How many days is recommended to take the St Lukes medical exam prior to the embassy interview? I understand that the exam results need to be sent to the embassy and approved before the visa can be issued. If someone interviews January 15, when should the medical exam be takes at St Lukes?

Embassy recommends AT LEAST a week before the interview.

Thanks, so there is no expiration date for the medical exam results? Like it has to be done within 2 weeks or 10 days of interview? Can she do it 2-3 weeks before and its still valid?

There is no time limitation for doing the medical before the interview, however there is a limitation regarding the visa (6 month maximum validity) as it is tied to the date of the medical. Do the medical a month early and there is only 5 months of visa validity remaining by interview time.... you get the idea. (exceptions to this rule are in regards to TB DOT treatment if it happens)

Now the medical itself is valid for one year, which is of minimal concern unless you delay completing AOS after getting married.

The Medical itself has an expiration of 6 months. I did mine a month before my interview date. :)

Wrong. The medical is valid for one year. The 6 month limitation is in regards to the visa.

Yep that's what I meant. Thanks for making it clear Hank :)

Thanks, I thought the embassy required the medical to get done like 5 days prior to the interview, but clearly she can do the medical a couple of weeks before as it is still valid. I understand the validity of the medical in the long run, but that is not the main concern now. We are just trying to make the medical timing work well before the interview so the results get to the embassy at the time of the interview date.

The 6 month clock to get on the plane to the United States starts ticking on the day of the med exam, not on the day the visa is issued. But most of us are anxious to get on the plane as soon as possible, so that is not really a factor.

Even if you have the med one month before your interview and it takes one month after the interview to get your visa, you still have four months to get on the plane, more than enough for most of us.

So if you have access to Manila one month or even two months before your interview, that would be a good time to get the med done. This way if something goes wrong that will delay you a week or two, it will not be a problem.

Actually the 6 month clock is for clearing POE not getting on the Plane. ;)

Thank you for correcting my inaccuracy. It may be 1 to 2 days between getting on the plane and clearing POE, and for those who cut it close that might make a difference.

This is an example of what I mean about how St Luke's will try to accommodate you if you are crunched like that. But they can't help you if you don't tell them you need help.
