My fiance recently got declined pending AP at the Lagos Consulate we could not show picture of our traditional marriage so they asked for pictures with family members . Since we did a big engagement early this year we thought it may be a good idea to get married and apply for CR1 Visa since we are able to provide sufficient evidence of marriage (ie communications, pictures money transfers joint account and so on) My question is this?

What is the actual marriage cost fees for foreigner marrying Nigerian at the Ikoyi registry?

Does it matter which local government registry you use i.e if we do it at the local government of where she resides.

Please any information will be helpful.

Thank you in advance.

if both of you are Nigerian citizen, then you can wed at the local marriage registry, but if one of you is a usa citizen then you definitely have to marry at the federal marriage registry, which ikoyi marriage registry is one of the approve centre..

from my understanding the total cost from start to finish could be between 60-70k(naira).

be bless

Here are a couple of links for a wedding at Ikoyi, that is where I was married also. There are videos of me being married there on my page here on VJ. The rates are listed on the first link - however, they are subject to change, depending on who is helping you etc. If your husband has questions, he can contact my husband, you can PM me privately for his email address. He did our whole process himself before we go there and it went very smoothly. Blessings!

Thank you so much for the links they were very helpful. We have gotten different estimates from different people that work in the same office at the ikoyi registry. Just to get an idea how much did you pay for the marriage license?

Thank you

Tee here are some facts: When you file a fiance visa & you do any form of celebration i.e engagement or introduction it is viewed by the US consulate as a traditional marriage.

The Nigeria marriage Act recognises two forms of marriage & they are the Statutory & Customary marriages. The Statutory is that done by accredited religious organization,Government agencies, which at the end you get issued a marriage License. While Customary is that done base on the custom & tradition of the two parties involved which according to the marriage act will be considered a marriage when a bride prize is paid & accepted. In the case of the Customary no marriage License is issued which for this reason cannot be used for immigration purpose since there exist no documented record for such a marriage. However you can apply & be issued a marriage license even if it was a Customary one.

The Nigerian marriage Act recognises all accredited government agencies be it Federal,State & Local government or religious organization, that issue marriage license so does the US Consulate.

Myself & my wife wanted our marriage license issued to us by Ikoyi registry bcos its a Federal Registry & then we were told that it was the only Government Registry to issue Licenses to marriages where one of the couple is non-Nigerian.After more inquiry & research we came to understand that all marriage license issued by any accredit agencies or religious organisation is valid for immigration purpose. We decided to have it done the local government council of my residence. In all we spent about #20,000 for the application & issuance at registry. If you need some clarification you may ask the US Consular Officer on nairaland.com.

I truly don't know my husband did it all for us. It is not easy to give you an exact rate because they pretty much have a higher price for foreign spouses. And so you know everything you do when at the registry they are asking for more money. You are welcome to privately message me and I can hook you up with my husbands bbm or whatapp numbers and he can give ya'll a better idea. God Bless Your Journey!
