Hi,

My name is Amani. I am 21 and I have been on this visa process for pretty much three years now. Last year I failed my medical examination as I was tested positive for marijuana use. (this was because I was honest about a one-off recent usage at the time). I have no past history of drug use and I have been completely clean all year (I do not take drugs). Late last year I was told I would undergo random drug screenings throughout the year but I was quite unaware I would have to attend my own GP for this. I honestly thought the doctors were going to contact me to come in to the Knightsbridge doctors for these screenings. One year later I am now approaching my new medical examination. I had around 3 appointments I had previously booked but I had to change them due to family issues ect. Each time I contacted the doctors in the last six months never did they make me aware that I had to go for the random drug screenings until today the receptionist pulled out my file and went through exactly what I needed. Now I have been told that because I have not approached my own GP for these drug tests I may now have to wait another year to undergo drug screenings again. Has anyone had this issue before? I mean my doctors could write a letter stating that i've never had any form of drug use before but is there any other kind of proof that I could use to help my case? Knightsbridge doctors are stating that 'In january and march this year over the phone we spoke to you to about the drug screening' but I am very unaware of this and also apparently they sent a letter one of which I did not recieve but I did change address some time ago but I did not have a set address to give them until recently.

Also on another note, my visa has already been extended up until early feburary, If I do have to undergo another year of screening will the doctors be able to extended this deadline further? As I will already have done my medical but they will be the ones asking me to wait another year?

Thank you so much to anyone who can give me some guidance on this. I appreciate it more than you could imagine. I have not seen my mother for 3 years now as she is already out in the US! So I really want to get out there to be with her.

You were told you had to take these tests for a year. During that 12 long months you never thought about doing so nor that its your responsibility to follow up on the instruction? I wonder what you thought was going to happen?

I think you will find that because you didn't follow the direction you will have to start all over with the process again. That will give you plenty of time to stay clean and pass the tests.
