 My ex might tell you he often woke with bruises. Seventeen years of listening to that stuff I learned to oops accidentally bump him with my knee, flip over very hard enough to stir him, or say his name very loud it worked well I would get back to sleep. I know, I know prolly a good reason why he is my ex lol.

Tim does make a noise in his sleep not sure I could call it snoring, so much as breathing very heavy.

an update...in case interested. i am now using earplugs...the foam ones. at first it was so uncomfortable but i've gotten use to it. i can still hear him snore...but it's muffled (no i did not put a pillow over his face.) he's going to the doctor this March. i do hope it can be "cured" somehow. it's still better to sleep without earplugs. :D

Fate is building a bridge of chance for the one you love...

Snoring (especially prolonged or very loud snoring) is usually indicative of medical problems (weight, allergies, or sleep apnea, for examples). I personally would get things checked out as soon as possible.

I thought there was something about the soft pallette (roof of the mouth) that being overweight can have an effect on as well as other factors that you mentioned. I think there is laser surgery now to correct the problem.

Don't know about the soft pallet, but I do know that surgery is *not* recommended for sleep apnea (which is usually caused with problems in the throat) because it rarely works.

Most effective treatment for apnea is a CPAP machine like doodlebug said, second most is a dental appliance, and surgery is a last resort.

Hey doodlebug--me too! And my husband also grinds his teeth, really really badly--he's getting fitted for the mouthguard next week.

And I told him if he laughs at my mask in front of me, no sex. ;) I'm just getting one of the under-nose ones, though, not even a full nasal mask.
