Hello,

I got my SSN card soon after moving to the states, we got married, then went back to the SSN office with our certified marriage certificate, the SSN card and my passport with my visa. We were denied a name change because the name on my visa wont match the SSN card after I change my name. I was told that I need a new visa issued with my new name in order to change the SSN card, because the card and my visa have to match in their computer system. I also called the social security national customer service, and was told the same thing. I cant find anything online with people having this same issue.

Any help would be appreciated!

Forget the name change for now. Your number is valid. When you get your greencard, go fix the name. They have to see an immigration record in that name. Your only record is your I-94 POE in the maiden name. When USCIS updates you to permanent resident in their records, the SSA will find you under that married name.
