What's the difference?

Filing online is free of charge and they will mail you the check in a couple weeks

Filing through an agent costs money but you get your money right away

Is it true?

Which one is better?

I filed online using TurboTax. Cost me $14 to e-file. I got my return in 7 days.

I use HR Block online but I could swear it's only like $40 if that. I've used them for the past four years I think and I like that all the info from prior years is right there for me in case I ever need to print out past tax returns.

Has anyone even recieved their W-2's yet?? I keep looking in the mail but nada.

I agree too that unless you're truly strapped for immediate cash, it's sooo not worth it to get the money immediately. You pay dearly and it's basically money thrown out the window unless you're in a total emergency situation. Have it direct deposited if you want it quicker but don't do the loan thing if you can help it.

If anyone is in the same situation (married USC filing taxes with foreign spouse not yet in the US) there's a few tax threads over in the K-3 section. I'm still a little unclear on exactly what is or isn't the legal/best way but it's getting better. :)

Married on 11/21/06 in her hometown city Tumauini located in the Isabela province (Republic of the Philippines)

Was trying to file tax on TurboTax..

After I entered all the information from all of mine and hubby's W-2s, then it says that I have an amount of about $1,200 of Federal Refund due...which means that we owe IRS $1,200?? #######??

All we did last year was work and we didn't even own any property..

I wasn't even half way through the filing process but we decided to fxck it we'll go to H&R block tmrw..

If you think you've got too much going on to handle it yourself take it somewhere and have it done. If it's fairly simple, file online.

I'm taking mine to H&R Block this year. Self-employed, bought a home, and I'm a math dunce.

I filed with H and R block, cost me 130 bucks to file, but i got 1000 dollars more than i got last year when i filied with turbotax.

Are you suggesting that you got more of a refund going through H&R Block than you would have filing on your own? If so, have you presented your 2005 return to H&R Block to look over and have they found errors that you made that, if corrected, would have yielded a larger return? If so, have you filed an amended tax return for last year to recover the overpaid taxes?

ETA: I file online with direct deposit of the refund (if any). Works very well and the refund arrives in no time at all - typically a week.

And yeah, what Gupt said: There's no such thing as an instant tax refund. Those are loans that you pay a hefty price for.

The money you get "right away" usually comes with a price. You get it as a "loan" with very high interest rates. Get your refund straight from the IRS.

yes. Consider it a high interest rate personal loan.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I believe taht "federal refund due" means money that the IRS owes you.. so that means the IRS owes YOU $1200...

Between my wife and I, I am expecting 3 W2s this year. So far I've only received one. I'm also expecting multiple interest income, mortgage and brokerage tax statements.. I've received only one of them. Still waiting...
