Hey guys,

Quick question. We just got the temporary GC. Right now we're going to school for the next 2 years. We're living with my parents until we finish our programs, and go back to work, which will coincide with when we file for ROC.

Will USCIS a statement from my parents that we live with them? I'll also have some short leases from the times we are at internships during the summer, but I don't have a joint lease otherwise. Will that be an issue? Trying to get prepped in advance.

Thanks in advance

just got the 2 year card? you two will be living there those 2 years?

look - USCIS/RoC is about showing comingling of financial things,

so at a minimum,

talk with your parents about getting bills , utility bills, redone at their house,

so that

your two names are on the utility bills instead of the parents,

and

then there is joint bank accounts on you two,

and

jointly filed tax returns ..

although you won't have joint lease document, IMO (and others) joint utility bills are a big win for RoC.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I wouldn't worry too much. I wouldn't even worry about utility bills personally. USCIS is quite used to couples living with in-laws. I'd make sure all your own mail comes to the same address. Get a letter from your parents. Have joint bank account and if possible use the same credit cards or pay them both from your joint account. Have you cell phone bills come to the same address or be on the same family plan. Have each other on as many insurance policies as possible. Try to show that this was all continuous from the date of the initial GC until you apply for ROC.
