Sorry if this is a re-post but I am getting conflicting info and the dept of state website does not say clearly

mine is a simple IR-1/CR-1 immigrant visa from Singapore to the United States.

I will not be able to attend as I will be moving back to the US before the interview.

Do I (the petitioner) need to attend the interview at the US Embassy?

some say yes others say no.

Petitioner is not supposed to attend the interview. It seems some embassies are allowing petitioners at the interview. Actually, my spouse wishes me to attend the interview (I am the petitioner) and my lawyer has advised me that I am not the one to be interviewed so I should not attend. Travel money and travel time permitting, I plan to accompany to the embassy only (for moral support and cheering section duties ?)
